Gupta Empire, gold dinar of Samudra Gupta (c.350-375 AD), 'Battle Axe' type, S. Kumar Class II, var. A.2, 7.18g. Obv: Nimbate king, wearing a skull-cap and tunic, standing holding a battle axe in his one hand and his other hand resting on his hip. An attendant stands facing him holding aloft a crescent standard. Brahmi legend Samudra under the king's arm holding the axe, Brahmi legend krtantaparasur jayatyajita rajajetatjitah partly visible. Rev: Nimbate goddess, seated on throne with her feet on a lotus-shaped footrest, holding cornucopia in her left hand and a diadem with coins in her right hand; Brahmi legend Kritantaparasuh to right and a tamgha in the left field, dotted border around.
