Group 9: Coins of Kutapada (कूटपाद), a recently known ruler of ancient Maharashtra

Amongst all coins of the 'Dakshina-patha-pati' collection, those issued by Kutapada are most significant. A coin of this ruler was published first by Prashant Kulkarni reportedly found in the Pusad aggregate. But the varieties offered here make by far the most comprehensive collection of coins struck by this obscure ruler. They add considerably to our understanding of the political history of ancient Deccan.
The coins of Kutapada offered here belong to four different types: Bull (large coins), Gajalakshmi, Bull (small coins) and Elephant. The first two types link with 'Sebaka' type coins as they have the same reverse motif as of Sebaka, Kukutakhada and Viga. The other two types are, however, distinctly different.
Bull Type (large coins):

General Type:

Obv: Bull standing to right, Swastika above its back, triangle-headed standard behind, six-arched hill in the front, wavy line alternating with fishes and turtles below; Brahmi legend Ramño Kutapadasa above.
Rev: Bold Nandipada drawn with double lines; a double circle surmounted by Shrivatsa to its right.
Obv: Bull standing to right, Swastika above its back, triangle-headed standard behind, traces of six-arched hill in the front,wavy line alternating with fishes and turtles below; Brahmi legend Ramño Kutapa(dasa) above. Rev: Bold Nandipada drawn with double lines, Swastika above; a double circle surmounted by Shrivatsa to its right, 14.48g.
