Auction Date: 06-05-2023
Silver
Nawabs of Arcot, Sa'adatullah Khan I (1710-1732 AD), copper double cash in the name of Farrukhsiyar, Trichanapali /Farruknagar mint, 6.37g. Obv: Farsi legend Badshah Farrukh(siyar) Shah. Rev: Mint-name in middle line.
Very fine, Rare.
The reading of the mint-name on these coins is not certain. On some, the legend appears to be 'Tirchanapali', but on others a distinct 'shosha’ is visible to the left. In terms of Farsi orthography, all visible letters except the 'shosha' would fit both 'Tirchanapalli' and 'Farrukhnagar'.

Maratha Confederacy - domains of the Kher family, silver rupee in the name of Shah Alam II, Kalpi mint, RY Ahd, Trisul symbol on obverse, not listed in M&W, 11.21g.
About Extremely fine, Rare.
The listing by Maheshwari and Wiggins suggests a hiatus between the reign of Alamgir II and RY22 of Shah Alam II for the mint of Kalpi. This coin demonstrates that the mint at Kalpi remained operational in the immediate aftermath of Alamgir II's reign, in the fateful years that culminated in the Battle of Panipat.
