Obv: Stylized representation of a seated goddess; Sarada legend Ani to right. Rev: Stylized king standing facing left, sacrificing over altar; Sarada legend rjji(ta) below his arm.
About Extremely fine, Very rare.
The reign of Sugandha Rani ended in chaos. She was heavily under the control of mercenary soldiers called 'Tantrins' and 'Ekangas'. She selected Nirjjita varman, son of Sukha varman and grandson of Shura varman, to be the king, in the hope that being her relative, he would act according to her directions. But Nirjjita varman was a physical handicap and used to squander money. The Tantrin infantry then deposed him and installed his son Partha on the throne ('Rajatarangini of Kalhana Pandita: Vol 1', translated by Jogesh Chunder Dutt, London, 1887, p. 123-124)

Hindu kings of Kashmir, Utpala dynasty - copper dinar of Chakra varman (923-933; 935; 936-937 AD), not listed in major publications, 6.39g. Obv: Stylized representation of a seated goddess; Sarada letter Cha to right. Rev: Stylized king standing facing left, sacrificing over altar; Sarada legend kkra below his arm.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
Chakravarman was yet another child-ruler; he went on to rule for ten years (till 933/934), for a few months under the regency of his mother and then, under grandmother Kshillika. A new revolution by the Tantrin soldiery then installed Suravarman I; he ruled for about a year before being compelled to abdicate the throne, after failing to raise the demanded bribes. The Tantrins then re-installed Partha but deposed within a very short time-span, as Chakravarman promised the Tantrins with even greater riches. When the Tantrins installed him in 935, he appointed them in important offices but had to flee again, after failing to raise enough taxes.

Copper
Hindu Kings of Kashmir - copper dinar of Queen Shrimahadevi (c.1000-1100 AD), a hitherto unknown queen most likely of the first Lohara dynasty, unpublished in major sources, 5.37g. Obv: Stylized representation of a seated goddess; Sarada legend Shri/Shri (maha) on either side. Rev: Stylized king standing facing left, sacrificing over altar; Sarada legend De(vya) below his arm.
About Very fine, Very rare.
The name 'Shrimahadevi' suggests that this coin was struck in the name of a 'chief queen' - however, it is not yet known which ruler she was a queen to. Stylistically the coin looks to be an 11th century issue, so it is likely that she belonged to the first Lohara dynasty.

Kakatiyas of Warrangal, Prola-I (1052-1076 CE), Gold PMC 10.02g, Height: 73mm, Width: 74mm, Two-and-a-Half 4 -Warrior Type Gold Gadyana. The broadest known Indian Hindu coin with total of 35 repousse punches on the obverse of a circular flan. Unpublished variety and known for the first time. Hoarder's envy, collector's pride.
Mint state, Exceedingly rare.
The central punch consists of the images of Ram-Laxman-Bharat-Shatrughan in warrior pose. The other punches are struck in two concentric circular orbits. The inner orbit consists of 18 singly struck 8 petalled lotus punches as in a garland. The outer orbit punches consist of 2x Sri-Sri, 1x'Ahitagaja'and 1x'Kesari'in Kannada, and 4 groups of Boar-Lotus-Boar symbols interleaving the legend punches. The above coin is from a small hoard that had a mix of Nolamba, Ganga, and Kakatiya coins. The hoard is believed to be of the mint that changed hands of the Nolambas, Kakatiyas and the Gangas dynasties. 'Ahitagaja Kesari' is one of the common titles of the Kakatiyas adorned by many of the rulers of the dynasty starting from Prola-I. The coin fabric suggests that the coin is of period of transition between the Nolambas and the Kakatiyas. The above coin hence is assigned to Prola-I (1052-1076 CE).
