Copper
Gujarat under Mughal conquest - copper dhinglo in the name of Akbar (1556-1605 AD), struck to local Saurashtra standard, 9.88g. Obv: Full name of the emperor (partly visible) with Gujarati/Nagari legend Ra Si Akbar below. Rev: Shahada in dotted rectangle.
Very fine, Very rare.
These local coins in the name of Akbar were most likely struck very soon after the Mughal conquest of Sorath (Saurashtra) in which the Afghan combine supporting Muzaffar Shah III was defeated. It is likely that they were struck by Naurang Khan, the partisan of Mughals who was appointed the first Faujdar of the newly conquered province of Junagarh.
