Gold
Indus Valley Civilization (mature phase, 2500-2000 BC), gold ornamental diskette, to be strung into a necklace, said to have been recovered as a surface find at Lothal, Gujarat. 2.06g. 30.79mm.
Extremely fine, Extremely rare.
A large hoard of such diskettes was found in May 2000 at Mandi in Muzaffarnagar district, Western Uttar Pradesh. The hoard was contained in two bronze containers and included many varieties of spacer beads, hollow terminal beads, single and double bell-shaped beads, and thin circular diskettes, similar to this one. However, this diskette is reportedly found at Lothal and if so, this would be the first ever object of its kind to be found at IVC sites in Western India. It has been fashioned with a rim and two very small holes with a neat cleft in on the radius. The technique and method of its manufacture are a testament to the skills and metallurgical knowledge of the Indus Valley Civilization.
