Auction Date: 16-10-2021
Copper
Nawabs of Arcot - copper cash in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 1189, Ganesh-Tamilnadu 14.7, 2.84g. Obv: Legend Shah Alam. Rev:Sanah 1189.
Extremely fine, Rare.
There is uncertainty about the attribution of these coins to Nawabs of Arcot, although Ganesh in his book 'The Coins of Tamilnadu' has done so. The type resembles gold 'Afranji' fanams struck by Hyder Ali in the Cuddappah region and plausibly, these coins might be Mysore issues in the name of Shah Alam.
