Early Medieval Maharashtra, Khandesh region - 'bull' type alloyed copper coin of 'Vishnukundin' fabric, attributed to an uncertain ruler, probably of a local feudatory dynasty (c.600-700 AD), 2.00g. Obv: Bull standing facing right; Brahmi legend Ra Ka above, between two 'Shri' letters, executed in a stylized manner. Rev: Linga between lampstands in a rayed circle.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
Usually, these coins have Vaishnavite emblems such as a lotus or a Shankha shell on reverse. The occurrence of a Linga is highly unusual and suggests that the issuer was a Shaiva.
