Private commemorative bronze medal, struck by a committee celebrating the Rao Tula Ram, undated (probably struck in 2000 to mark 175th anniversary of his birth), 15.46g.
Extremely fine, Rare.
Rao Tula Ram was the Ahir Raja of Rewari in Haryana. He was a hero of the Indian War of Independence of 1857-59. In November 1857, he fought a bloody battle with the British at Nasibpur near Narnol in which the British suffered heavy losses. Rao Tula Ram then joined Tatya Tope and fought in Western India against the British for a year, before ultimately moving to Afghanistan in the aftermath of the War. He died in 1863 while in Kabul.

British India, commemorative medal, bronze "Pondicherry Taken" medal, dated 1761, by Thomas Pingo struck in later 19th century commemorating the capture of Pondicherry, Puddester 761.1, 29.20g. Obv: Bust of George III, legend GEORGE THE THIRD around, and engraver's signature T.P.F. below. Rev: Allegorical winged 'Victory' writing the names of the generals Coote and Steevens on a tablet; palm trees and paddles flank the water of the Indus and Ganges rivers being emptied from vases, legend Total Expulsion of the French From India, Pondicherry Taken MDCCLXI.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
A rare issue with an incredibly illustrative design, marking the capture of Pondicherry on January 16, 1761 under the command of Admiral Sir Eyre Coote and Rear Admiral Charles Steevens in the Anglo-French War's India theatre. Pondicherry was returned to the French in 1763.
