Copper
Medieval Khandesh / North Maharashtra, 'bull'-type coin of Vishnukundin fabric in alloyed copper attributed to the Sendraka-Nikumbha dynasty, (600-700 AD), unpublished in major sources, first coin attributed to this dynasty, 4.08g. Obv: bull standing facing right within dotted circle; modified Brahmi legend Niku(m)bha above. Rev: axially placed wheel of Vishnu between two lamp-stands.
Very fine+, Extremely rare.
The dynasty of Nikumbhas is known to have ruled in South Gujarat – Khandesh – North Maharashtra region on the evidence of four copper-plate grants. From these grants we learn that Bhanushakti was the founder of the family. Bhanushakti might have been invested by the Chalukya emperor Pulakesin II with the government of Southern Gujarat after the defeat of the Kalachuri king Buddharaja. His son was Adityasakti and the latter's son was Allashakti. Allashakti was ruling in 656AD. In his grant, Allashakti claims to have won royal rights and assumes the titles Prthivivallabha and Nikumbha. Allashakti's son Jayasakti also is called 'Nikumbha' in his Mundkhede copper-plates. The name survives as the present day 'Nikam' among the high-caste Marathas.

Silver
Medieval Maharashtra, uninscribed silver 'dramma' coin, probably struck by early Rashtrakutas, (600-700 AD), 0.90g. Obv: three-quarters profile bust of a man sporting a 'warrior' hairstyle. Rev: pot-bellied Kubera, god of wealth, seated facing on a couch, flanked by two female attendants (one visible).
Very fine, Very rare.
A rare and unusual type found in North Maharashtra and Khandesh areas, which according to some scholars were the homeland of the Rashtrakutas. Their first capital 'Mayurakhindi' has tentatively been identified with the Markanda fort in the Satmala range of North Western Maharashtra.

Shilaharas of South Maharashtra / Paramaras of Vidarbha, silver ½ dramma coin of 'Bhojadeva', (1100-1200 AD), 0.33g. Obv: anthropomorphic Garuda holding snake, facing right in a 'Veera' pose. Rev: Nagari legend in two lines Shri Bhoja / Deva.
Very fine, Very rare.
Since the Garuda was the dynastic emblems of both the Shilaharas and the Paramaras and there were rulers named 'Bhoja' in both dynasties, it is difficult to attribute this coin to any one of them. The Shilahara attribution to Bhoja II (1175-1212AD) seems more probable because coins of the Paramara Bhoja are known in a very different (lion) type.

Potin
Eastern Chalukyas / Pallavas, uninscribed potin coin, (600-700 AD), not listed in major publications, 0.90g. Obv: pair of fish. Rev: cluster of dots.
Very fine+, Rare.
Comparison with other coins of the Eastern Chalukya series reveals that the 'cluster of dots' on the reverse are in fact remnants of the lion motif seen on larger units. The fish on the reverse might suggest that the coin was struck by the Pallavas during one of the stints in which they occupied Chalukya territories.

Gold
Hindu Shahis of Northern Gandhara region, gold ½ dinar of 'Vipilinda', a hitherto unknown ruler, (700-800 AD), 4.19g. Obv: king riding on a horse moving to left, carrying a weapon / standard in one hand and making a gesture of appreciation by the other. Rev: bull seating couchant, facing left; Sarada legend Shri Shahi, clockwise above and Vipilinda anticlockwise below. Unlisted in any publication, unique so far.
Very fine, Unique so far.
This is probably the earliest example of a Shahi 'Bull and Horseman' type, struck in gold to the 'dinar' standard. Palaeography of the legend suggests an 8th century date when Brahmi was gradually being transformed into Sarada script. The known number of surviving Shahi gold coins can be counted on fingers of a hand. The name of the issuer appears to be 'Vipilinda' which is not known from any other sources. Our understanding of the dynastic origins and order of the Shahi ruler is very scant and as such this is a significant addition to the corpus of historical evidence at our disposal.

Coins with similar lotus motif were recovered from early levels in excavations carried out at Nadol in Rajasthan, a site associated closely with early Rajput history. The coin is tentatively attributed to this period judging by the similarity of the motif.

Medieval Gujarat / Rajasthan, unattributed copper coin of (800-900 AD), unpublished and most likely unique, 6.72g. Obv: retrospectant lion in dotted rectangle in centre; incomplete proto-Nagari legend Shri Umadachchha Kara…. Rev: a design composed of floral motifs.
Very fine, Extremely rare.
Although it is not yet certain who struck this coin, it is no doubt a very interesting piece and the legend on it proves to be a challenge. Perhaps, a nuanced reading will help identity of the issuer. As per the palaeography of the legend, there is little doubt that the coin is struck in Western India and dates to about 9th century.
