Copper
Chalukyas of Badami, Alloyed Copper Coin of Pulakeshin II (c. 608-644 AD) in 'Vishnukudin lion' type, unpublished, 1.85g. Obv: Roaring lion facing a sword to right; Brahmi legend Shri Satyashraya above. Rev: 'Vase of plenty' or Kalasha placed between two lamp stands.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
Pulakeshin II, the Chalukya king of Badami, also known as 'Satyashraya', defeated the Vishnukundins of Vengi and appointed his brother Kubja Vishnuvardhana as a viceroy there; he went on to establish the lineage of the Chalukyas of Vengi or 'Eastern Chalukyas'. Coins of the Vishnukundin type with legend 'Shri Satya' struck at Vengi under the viceregla tenure of Vishnuvardhana are listed by Mitchiner (MCSI 183), however, no coins with the full title 'Shri Satyashraya' were hitherto known. This is the first such coin, and it was perhaps struck very soon after the Chalukya conquest of Vengi.

Gold
Rashtrakutas, Uninscribed Gold Gadyana (c. 1000-1100AD), 3.96g. Obv: Garuda seated cross-legged with folded hands (Anjalimudra), surrounded by a floral whorl. Rev: Temple, flanked by crescent and Swastika at the top and two lamp-posts.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
Seated Garuda' was the dynastic emblem of the Rashtrakutas and hence the attribution of this coin. The design is derived from Gadyanas of Ganga and Kadamba dynasties and therefore it can be surmised that the coin must have been struck towards the end of the Rashtrakuta dynasty, perhaps issued by later rulers such as Indra III (c. 914-928) or Govinda IV (c. 940-960).

Western Gangas, Gold Gadyana attributed to Ereyaganga (c. 850-900 AD), Ganesh 3.1 plate specimen, 3.72g. Obv: Caparisoned elephant facing right. Rev: Hale-Kannada legend in three lines Shri Ma (dhya?) / lu ya na ka / (li) yu ga.
Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
Ganesh has attributed the coin to Ereyaganga on the basis of his reading of the legend which is not satisfactory. It is evident that the legend ends in the word 'Kaliyuga' and therefore must refer to a title which compares the issuer to a quality rare in the Age of Kali. Marasimha, the Ganga king (960-973AD) is known to have held such titles.

The attribution of this type to Vikramaditya VI is on the basis that Gadyanas named 'Navilachinha Pon' ('peacock marked' Hoans) are mentioned in his inscriptions. It is plausible that this is a fractional coin in the same series.
