The coins with dual mint-mark - an elephant goad or 'Ankush' and a spectacle or 'Nagphani' were struck under the governorship of Trimbakji Dengley, a confidante of Peshwa Bajirao II. Prior to his appointment at Ahmedabad, Trimbakji is known to have farmed the mint producing 'Hali Sicca' rupees with the 'Nagphani' mark at Pune. Very Fine, Very Scarce.
Rupees of this sort are referred to as 'Shambhu-Peerkhani' rupees owing to the additional mark of a Linga on reverse. Maheshwari & Wiggins, for reasons unknown have attributed these coins to the 'miscellaneous and unattributed' category. Although 'Shambu-Peerkhani' rupees were struck at more than one mints, the attribution of this variety to Chikodi is pretty certain based on find-spot evidence. The mint was operated by a minor Desai family.
