Silver
Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Silver Rupee, Berar Mint, Khurdad 4x, with a 'lion raising front paw' symbol below the mint-name, 11.40g.
Extremely Fine, Very Rare.
Rupees with 'Berar' mint-name were probably struck from more than one locations in the province of Berar. They carry different symbols below the mint-name: a star, a bird and the name 'Ram' have been noted. A coin with 'lion' symbol exists in the British Museum. The symbol bears close resemblance to decorative motifs seen on gateways of many forts in the Deccan.

Gold
Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Gold Mohur, Shahr Nahrwala Patan Mint, AH 984, 10.92g. Obv: Shahada in dotted rectangle, names and titles of Rashidoons around. Rev: Full name of the Emperor in mihrab-shaped dotted cartouche; mint-name below.
Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
Akbar completed his first conquest of Gujarat in 1573 with the provincial capital based at Ahmedabad. However, for the first few years of Mughal rule, other mints in the province namely Malpur and Patan, a.k.a. Anhilwara, produced coins so that the new regime could achieve effective monetization of the newly acquired province into the Mughal monetary system. The products of these mints also served to produce money for Mughal troops of occupation and further conquest into Kathiawad. Anhilwara, known to Mughal historians by its Islamic variant name 'Nahrwala', was the ancient capital of Gujarat and a centre of very important textile trade. All issues of this mint, which appears to have functioned for only two years are very rare – the gold is exceptionally so. There possibly exists only one other piece in private hands.

Silver
Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Silver Rupee, Sitpur Mint, Mihr 47, with additional word 'Darb' inscribed on reverse below the mint-name, 11.28g.
Extremely Fine, Extremely rare in this grade.
As per Abu'l Fazl's note in the Ain-i Akbari, 'Darb' refers to the denomination of ½ Rupee. In the 47th year of his reign, Akbar is known to have issued a series of coins from Agra with the denominational terms included in the legend. The design of this coin certainly attempts to follow the trend of the Agra issues, with its superb execution, elaborate borders and eight-pointed star enclosing the reverse legend - in spite of the fact that the denomination appears to be wrong!
