Roman Empire - gold aureus of Septimius Severus (Lucius Septimius Severus) (193-211AD), Rome mint, struck in 202-210 AD, pierced twice, RIC IV.1- 288, 6.78g. Obv: laureate and bearded head of the Emperor facing right; SEVERVS PIVS AVG in exergue. Rev: city goddess Roma, helmeted, draped, seated facing left on shield, holding palladium in right hand and spear in left hand; Latin legend RESTITVTOR VRBIS around.
