Post-Gupta coinage in Bengal, Samatata region - gold dinar of Virachandra, king of Arakan (c.575-580 AD), ECB SAM9.1, 5.66g. Obv: stylised representation of a nimbate 'archer' type king, holding bow in one hand and arrow in the other, with a crudely executed 'Shankha' standard in the backdrop; Brahmi letter Shri to the left of the king's head and legend Vira/Chandra in two lines below the hand holding the bow. Rev: Stylised female figure standing holding a ball-like object in her hand, and curvilinear drapes behind her back; legend in the right field.
