AUC14 Lot No : 5

Archaic Silver punch-marked coin from lower Betwa river system (Erich area), (c. 400-300 BC), attributed to 'Erikachha' Janapada, (not in Rajgor or MATEC), 1.65g. Obverse has four punches in ABBB configuration – 1x 'lotus' and 3x '3-S symbols'. ABBB configuration (two designs - A & B used; B punched thrice to make a total of four punches) is not found on any punch-marked series of Indian sub-continent. The 3'S' symbol is a hall-mark Kosala symbol and its appearance on this coinage suggests influence of Kosalan coinage on the coinage of 'Erikachha'. As such, this particular variety is very important. Estimate
