Air Products has hit a milestone with its membrane-based nitrogen generation systems, having supplied 2,000 seagoing vessels with the technology. Water Recovery In Pv Process
The industrial gas giant is believed to be the first company to install a membrane-based nitrogen generation system onboard a ship in 1984. And today, ships in over 50 countries are utilising Air Products’ membrane-based nitrogen generation systems.
Air Products Membrane Solutions’ membrane-based nitrogen generation systems enable large ships to efficiently switch from traditional heavy fuels to cleaner alternative fuels while at sea, resulting in reduced emissions during the transport of goods.
Dr. Erin Sorensen, General Manager of Air Products Membrane Solutions, said, “Almost four decades after pioneering this technology, Air Products continues to innovate and support the energy transition by providing membrane systems to alternative fuel ships, enabling a cleaner future.”
Earlier this year, Air Products announced a $10m investment to significantly increase hollow fibre membrane production at its St. Louis, Missouri, facility.
This capacity improvement effort will impact product lines such as the PRISM® GreenDry membrane dryer and the PRISM® GreenSep membrane separator, which provide biogas industry customers with dehydration and upgrading solutions.
Expansion of the site also increases the production of PRISM® N2Sep membranes, which are the foundation of Air Products’ recently announced PRISM® InertPro Membrane System, a new nitrogen generator for the energy and gas industry that offers a flexible modular design to focus on efficiency and lower energy nitrogen generation.
